BRITA ON TAP V vs Pro V-MF: differences and replacement costs
Compare BRITA ON TAP V and Pro V-MF by cartridge media, manual versus LCD reminders, compatibility, 600-litre limits and replacement budgeting.

What do V, Pro and V-MF actually describe?
Similar BRITA names can conceal two separate choices: the reusable tap attachment and the replaceable treatment cartridge. A system bundle describes what comes together in the initial purchase. A refill listing describes the media you put into a supported housing later. Compare both rather than assuming every ON TAP pack has the same performance and reminder.
The standard V system uses a manual exchange reminder. The Pro V-MF bundle combines a digital housing with a V-MF cartridge. BRITA’s documentation describes four treatment steps for V and a fifth microfiltration membrane for V-MF. The membrane specification belongs to that cartridge, while the LCD remains a feature of the Pro housing.
| Feature | ON TAP V system | ON TAP Pro V-MF bundle |
|---|---|---|
| Reminder | Manual month setting | Digital remaining-capacity display |
| Supplied media | ON TAP V | ON TAP V-MF |
| Membrane distinction | No V-MF membrane in the V refill | Additional V-MF membrane |
| Hardness / limescale | No limescale reduction | No limescale reduction |
| Tap assessment | Exact outlet and adapter check | Exact outlet and adapter check |
| Future refill | Supported V or V-MF family | Supported V or V-MF family |
Read the selected listing’s pack contents because a system may be sold with one cartridge or a different refill bundle. “Pro” in an older retail title is not enough to identify everything included.
Choose the reminder you will actually use
ON TAP V with a manual reminder
Choose the V system when you are comfortable recording fitting age and monitoring usage yourself. Its reminder provides a visible prompt without a digital litre countdown. That does not remove the need to replace the filter at the stated limit or earlier where the instructions require it.
BRITA ON TAP V
A tap-mounted option for filtered drinking water without keeping a jug topped up. Its manual change reminder suits someone happy to track cartridge use.

Watch forAdded bulk at the outlet and no hardness reduction.
Choose it only after checking the outlet and supplied adapters. Pull-out or spray taps need particular attention to the fit chart; the filter is not a limescale solution.
Pro V-MF with a digital display
The Pro’s remaining-capacity display is useful when several people draw filtered water and a rough tally is difficult. It is not a laboratory water-quality measurement. Keep a separate calendar record so the time limit is not overlooked in a low-use kitchen.

For an eligible round tap outlet. Its membrane differs from the standard V refill; neither cartridge reduces hardness.
Both need a supported tap and enough working space at the sink. A shared brand name does not waive the pull-out, spray-head and adapter exclusions. Assess the exact housing against your kettle, bottle and swivel range before comparing prices.
A compatible cartridge changes the media, not the housing
BRITA lists cross-compatibility for the current ON TAP and ON TAP Pro families and the earlier HF digital version, while excluding versions released before 2019. If your system is older or unidentified, use our ON TAP generation guide before ordering. Do not rely on a cartridge silhouette alone.
For supported modern housings, selecting V-MF provides the specified membrane cartridge; it does not turn a manual reminder into an LCD. Conversely, placing a supported V cartridge in a Pro housing does not retain V-MF membrane treatment merely because the housing still says Pro. Record the actual refill family at each change.
BRITA describes taste-related and other reductions for these media, but neither is a hardness-reduction refill. A kettle can still accumulate scale after ON TAP treatment. If scale is the purchase priority, compare a suitable hard-water jug cartridge or a specifically configured under-sink option instead.
Do not use bacteria-related marketing as permission to ignore a boil-water notice or to treat an unknown supply. The system is intended for the water conditions specified in its instructions, and notices from the water supplier take priority.
Calculate service intervals before comparing refill prices
The V-MF replacement maximum is 600 litres or four months, whichever comes first. That is one cartridge’s limit, not a guaranteed period independent of usage. At four litres of filtered water daily, volume would take 150 days to reach; the four-month maximum arrives sooner. At ten litres daily, the volume allowance lasts 60 days, so waiting four months would overrun it.
For a current twin pack price of P, the cartridge unit price is P ÷ 2. Use that value with the number of service intervals your household needs. A low-use calendar-based plan is roughly three cartridges a year. At ten litres daily, annual volume is 3650 litres, equivalent to just over six 600-litre allowances; budget seven whole cartridges to cover the year from a fresh start, subject to the time and water-condition limits.

BRITA lists cross-compatibility with ON TAP V, Pro V-MF and the earlier HF with digital display. It excludes ON TAP versions from before 2019.
Those examples are calculations, not current price claims. The system’s included starter filter reduces the number of additional cartridges you need to buy in the first year. A twin pack can also leave an unopened spare at year end. Separate cash purchases from the amount of filter life consumed if you compare annual ownership fairly.
Use the running-cost calculator with the actual limits for the selected refill, and add the housing purchase separately. Compare V and V-MF pack prices only after deciding whether the media specification is appropriate; the cheapest incompatible pack has no useful unit cost.
Keep filtered mode, the reminder and maintenance in step
Use the filtered outlet for the cold drinking and cooking water you want treated, and the appropriate unfiltered mode for other tasks. The current BRITA manual gives 5–23°C for filtered operation. Do not run hot water through the cartridge because the attachment happens to be fitted to a mixer tap.
At a cartridge change, fit and flush the refill correctly before normal use. Reset the LCD on the Pro or set the manual reminder on the V as appropriate, then record the new fitting. Our replacement guide walks through the supported-generation sequence and the 1–2-minute new-filter flush.
An LCD fault does not necessarily require a complete new housing, and a reminder reset does not repair a leak or renew used media. Identify whether the problem concerns a cartridge, cap seal, adapter or display before buying replacement parts. For unresolved fitting or water-path faults, stop using the affected system and ask BRITA with its model and pack details.
Common questions
Can I put a V-MF cartridge in ON TAP V?
BRITA lists compatible modern ON TAP housings for V and V-MF choices. Confirm the generation first; versions released before 2019 are excluded. The manual housing still has a manual reminder.
Does Pro V-MF remove limescale?
No. BRITA says the ON TAP media retain calcium and magnesium. Do not choose it as a substitute for a hardness-focused cartridge or softener.
Does the LCD mean I can ignore four months?
No. Track fitting age and use the earlier applicable time or volume limit. The display is a service aid, not a water-quality certificate.
How long does a two-pack last?
Each cartridge has its own limit. At low use the four-month limit may govern; higher use can reach 600 litres earlier. Fit the second cartridge when the first is due.
Is ON TAP HF always the same as the oldest ON TAP?
No. BRITA names the earlier HF digital family among compatible systems but excludes pre-2019 versions. Identify the actual housing rather than relying on “old ON TAP” wording.
