BRITA 3-way filter tap buying guide: space, installation and ownership costs
Compare BRITA round and rectangle three-way taps, P-series cartridges, pressure and cabinet requirements, installation planning and realistic annual costs.

Choose the tap shape around the actual sink position
BRITA’s three-way tap combines ordinary hot/cold mixing with separately controlled filtered cold water. It can remove the need to store a filter jug or fit an additional small drinking-water tap. It does not itself boil, chill or carbonate water, and the filtered path still needs the matching installed cartridge and head.
The selected rectangle and round Amazon listings each identify a supplied P 1000 cartridge. Confirm the current pack, finish, head, indicator and connection parts before arranging installation. A cartridge included in a photograph is not a complete inventory, and a tap-only offer should not be compared with a complete kit without adjusting the budget.
BRITA mypure P1 3-way tap · rectangle
The rectangular BRITA three-way tap combines regular hot/cold mixing with a separate filtered-water control.
- Capacity / format
- 26.1cm length · 29cm height
- Cartridge / pack
- P 1000 supplied
Good forA lower angular tap shape with an installed cartridge.
Watch forNot a boiling or chilled-water system; the manual excludes low-pressure boilers.
Consider it with suitable pressure, compatible supplies and room for the P-series cartridge. Confirm the supplied head and UK fittings before arranging installation.
The current product page gives the angular version at 26.1cm length and 29cm height. The round version is 22.7cm length and 40cm height. Compare both with the sink bowl, splashback and any opening window. Check handle movement and the practical place for a tall bottle or pan rather than choosing by height alone.
BRITA mypure P1 3-way tap · round
The round BRITA three-way tap offers a taller curved spout with the same separate filtered-water purpose.
- Capacity / format
- 22.7cm length · 40cm height
- Cartridge / pack
- P 1000 supplied
Good forA taller spout where overhead space permits.
Watch forA window or shelf can conflict with the 40cm height.
Measure window opening, wall clearance and the space below the sink as well as the tap height. Confirm all supplied installation parts.
A taller spout may improve vessel clearance but conflict with a window. A lower angular tap may fit a shelf while projecting differently over the bowl. Use the exact drawing and existing mounting position to assess reach, fixing access and splash behaviour; the two quoted dimensions do not describe every clearance needed.
Understand the P-series cartridge and head
The installed filter uses the P-series arrangement, not MAXTRA PRO jug cartridges. The cited BRITA instructions describe P 1000 and P 3000 with a supported head, hardness settings and an indicator programmed for the chosen cartridge. A compatible head is necessary before treating the taller cartridge as a possible future upgrade.
BRITA P 1000 replacement · 1 cartridge
The compact P-series replacement used by the named BRITA installed-tap systems and compatible head arrangements.
- Capacity / format
- 400–1200L by hardness setting; up to 12 months
- Cartridge / pack
- P 1000
Good forA shorter cartridge and lower-demand supported installation.
Watch forP 1000 is unrelated to MAXTRA PRO jug-cartridge fit.
Select the correct head and hardness settings. Calendar and volume limits apply; the largest capacity figure is not a guarantee in very hard water.
P 1000’s nominal capacity varies substantially with the manual’s hardness setting: up to 1200 litres at A, 600 at B and 400 at C under the specified conditions. A claim of up to twelve months or 1200 litres cannot be read as twelve months of unrestricted use in very hard water. Water demand can bring the volume limit around first.
Filter purpose also matters. The tap provides a separate drinking-water path, but it is not a general treatment guarantee for every substance or source. Identify the concern from the water supplier’s information and check the exact cartridge documentation. If a named reduction is essential, use the certification-checking guide rather than relying on a broad product headline.
Measure below the sink and check the supply
For the cited three-way system, the manual gives 268mm height for P 1000 with its head. That is before adding the space needed to release the lock and withdraw the cartridge. The wall-mounted arrangement also has its own width and depth. Older mypure P1 documents give slightly different installed dimensions, so use the drawing for the actual head supplied.
Check the route around the waste trap, bins and appliance hoses. Make sure a replacement can be removed while the kitchen is in normal use, and leave access to the isolation valve and any flush hose. The under-sink measuring guide is useful before an installer commits to the head position.
The cartridge operating range in the cited manual is 2–8.6 bar with cold feed at 4–30°C. The complete installation must satisfy the requirements of all its components, not simply whichever maximum pressure appears largest. The manual explicitly excludes low-pressure boiler arrangements. Have the household’s actual supply checked rather than interpreting a generic high-pressure description as approval.
Include commissioning and handover in the installation plan
Give the installer the exact tap, head and cartridge details. Ask whether the existing mounting hole, fixing access and supply connections suit the selected model, and which supplied UK adapters are actually needed. Check permissions for any worktop alteration or changes in a rented property before booking work.
The head setting and indicator programming are part of commissioning. The manual’s default setting should not be assumed correct for the household’s water, and an indicator set for P 1000 is not automatically correct after switching to P 3000. Ask for the assessed setting, installed cartridge and reset procedure to be explained at handover.
The initial flush and leak check should be completed before normal use. Keep the manual and know where to isolate the system. Routine cartridge exchange is a different task from installing or modifying supply fittings; use an appropriate plumbing professional when the work involves connections, pressure control or unexplained leaks.
Compare realistic annual cartridge use
Count every litre through the filtered path, including bottles and cooking water. At four litres per day, a 400-litre allowance corresponds to about 100 days and 1200 litres to about 300 days. These examples show why capacity conditions matter; they do not establish the correct setting or promise that a particular cartridge will achieve its maximum.
Compare current prices using the running-cost calculator with the actual time and volume limits. Add installation, delivery, any approved replacement parts and the first supplied cartridge separately. A larger multipack can lower unit price but also ties up money in stock that needs correct storage.
BRITA P 3000 replacement · 1 cartridge
The taller P-series cartridge offers more nominal treatment capacity at each corresponding hardness setting.
- Capacity / format
- 1100–3400L by hardness setting; up to 12 months
- Cartridge / pack
- P 3000
Good forHigher use where the taller cartridge remains accessible.
Watch forThe cited three-way manual gives 419mm height including the head, before removal access.
Choose only when the supported head, indicator programming and service clearance suit the larger cartridge. It is not a remedy for low inlet pressure.
P 3000 may reduce the frequency of capacity-limited changes where the supported head, indicator and cupboard space suit it. Its larger capacity does not resolve low inlet pressure or poor plumbing access. Read the P 1000 vs P 3000 comparison before choosing that route.
Plan routine tap and aerator cleaning as well as filter changes, using the model’s approved methods. If flow falls later, the installed-filter troubleshooting guide helps distinguish a cartridge issue from a supply or installation problem before another purchase.
Common questions
Does a BRITA three-way tap boil or chill water?
The tap and P-series filter arrangement discussed here does neither. Regular mixed hot/cold water and separately filtered cold water are different paths; heating or chilling needs separately specified equipment.
What is included in the selected tap listings?
The selected round and rectangle Amazon listings each identify one P 1000 cartridge. Confirm the actual selected pack, filter head, indicator and UK connection parts before installation.
Can it be used with a low-pressure boiler?
The cited BRITA manual excludes installation with a low-pressure boiler. Have the actual supply arrangement assessed rather than interpreting a generally described compatible kitchen as approval.
Can I use MAXTRA PRO cartridges in this tap?
No. P 1000 and P 3000 are installed-system cartridge families with a matching head. MAXTRA PRO is a different jug and appliance cartridge format.
Will one cartridge last a year?
Only within its applicable volume and time conditions. The P 1000 capacity in the manual ranges from 400 to 1200 litres by hardness setting; high demand can reach that limit much earlier.
