The important difference is purpose
Both cartridges belong to MAXTRA PRO, so this is a choice within a compatible jug family rather than a reason to replace your jug. Start with what bothers you: the taste of cold drinking water, or the repeated scale deposits in a kettle used with hard water. Those are different priorities, even though a cartridge can address more than one aspect of the water.
BRITA’s Pure Performance specification describes its everyday taste and filtration purpose. Its Limescale Expert specification puts the emphasis on hard-water appliance protection. Neither product should be selected solely because its pack sounds more powerful.

The 50% figure is BRITA’s comparison with Pure Performance. It is not a claim that Limescale Expert removes 50% of every substance, delivers 50% longer life or works identically in every home. For a particular contaminant, inspect the exact cartridge documentation and applicable certification rather than extending a limescale claim to another substance.
Choose Pure Performance for an everyday refill
If you already use a compatible Marella and your main priority is drinking-water taste, Pure Performance is a practical comparison point. Check whether the new jug bundle already includes this type before buying more. A six-pack can be convenient, but it is only good value if it is the right family and you will use and store the spares appropriately.

Check the MAXTRA PRO family against your jug instructions. It is not a replacement for BRITA Classic, MicroDisc or ON TAP cartridges.
Consider what you actually filter. A household pouring a few glasses of cold water has a different consumption pattern from one filling a kettle several times a day. The amount used influences how quickly a volume limit is reached; buying a larger jug does not increase the cartridge’s allowance.
Choose Limescale Expert when scale is the priority
If you know your water is hard and scale is the reason you want filtration, compare the Limescale Expert pack first. Check your water supplier’s hardness information, rather than diagnosing the whole supply from a single kettle deposit. Factor the current refill price into the choice, especially if you are buying a jug supplied with Pure Performance and intend to change type at the next replacement.

BRITA positions this type for hard to very hard water. It treats the water you filter through the jug; it does not soften the whole household supply.
Jug filtration treats the water you put through it. It does not protect shower screens, pipework or every appliance in the home. Continue following the kettle or coffee machine’s descaling instructions. “Less scale” is not the same as “no maintenance”, and the appliance maker’s water requirements still matter.
Compare the cost on the same basis
For either type, divide the delivered pack price by the number of cartridges. Then use the same expected daily consumption in the running-cost calculator. This lets you assess the extra annual spend, if any, for the scale-focused type without confusing a larger pack with a cheaper cartridge.
At modest use, the four-week limit can arrive long before the rated litres. At heavier use, the volume limit can arrive first. Do not budget for six calendar months just because a box contains six cartridges: six four-week intervals cover 24 weeks, before allowing for earlier changes. Keep a simple record when switching type
Note the exact refill, fitting date and usual use. If scale or taste changes, check the instructions and local conditions rather than extending service life to compensate for a more expensive cartridge. A lid indicator is a reminder to manage the replacement routine; it is not a laboratory report on every substance in your water.

Questions before you buy
Will Limescale Expert fit the same jug as Pure Performance?
Both are MAXTRA PRO cartridges. If the jug is confirmed as compatible with that family, choosing between these two changes the cartridge purpose rather than the container. Classic, MicroDisc and ON TAP remain separate families.
Does Limescale Expert remove all hardness?
Do not treat the name as a promise of zero hardness or a whole-house softener. It reduces carbonate hardness in the water that passes through the jug. Local water conditions and use affect the result and useful life.
Can I use Pure Performance in a hard-water area?
BRITA describes Pure Performance as suitable across soft to hard water in its FAQ. If appliance scale is the main reason for filtering, compare Limescale Expert’s intended purpose and current price rather than assuming either cartridge is universally best.
Do both cartridges last 150 litres?
150 litres is a stated maximum, alongside a four-week time limit. It is not a promise for every water supply. Use the earlier applicable limit and replace sooner when the manufacturer’s instructions or water conditions require it.
Does the Amazon title always show the exact cartridge type?
Listing titles and variants can change. Confirm that the selected pack and packaging identify Pure Performance or Limescale Expert as intended. Do not use the pack colour or a broad MAXTRA PRO title as the only check.
