Three compact jugs with published dimensions

A fridge-door jug has to pass through an opening, sit on a shelf and come out again comfortably. A narrow base is useful, but a tall lid or projecting handle can be the deciding detail. These three models have manufacturer-published dimensions, which makes them a practical starting shortlist. None is guaranteed to fit every fridge door.

The comparison is specifically Marella Cool 2.4L, Liscia 2.5L and Style eco Cool 2.4L. Marella XL and other Style versions should not inherit these measurements. Listings sometimes group several sizes and colours together, so check the selected variant rather than relying on a search result photograph.

Marella Cool: a balanced starting size

Marella provides 1.4 litres filtered and a straightforward Memo replacement reminder. It is shorter than Style eco Cool and slightly deeper than Liscia. A stocked milk shelf still needs enough width for the handle and enough clearance above to remove the jug without catching the shelf above.

Liscia: the shallowest body in this comparison

Its published 10cm depth can matter on a restricted door shelf. The trade-off is 1.2 litres filtered, despite a 2.5-litre total figure. The linked six-cartridge bundle differs from the manufacturer’s basic single-filter pack, so compare the actual bundle contents when buying.

Style eco Cool: narrower, but taller

Style eco is 1.9cm narrower than Marella Cool on the published width figures, but 1.5cm taller. It offers Smart Light rather than Memo. It may solve a width problem while creating a height problem; its shared 10.5cm depth does not make the two models interchangeable in every compartment.

Our analysis: what the dimensions and filtered litres mean together

We used the published dimensions and capacities of the three named jugs to calculate a width-by-depth rectangle, ready-to-pour serving counts and the space left in three illustrative shelf openings. Keeping these calculations together shows why the shallowest jug, the narrowest jug and the largest filtered reservoir are different choices.

7.4% smallerStyle eco Cool’s width × depth rectangle is smaller than Marella Cool’s, but it is 15mm taller.
5mm shallowerLiscia saves this much published depth against either compact BRITA model here.
100–300mlExtra water to filter after a full reservoir when filling two 750ml bottles, depending on the model.

Liscia 2.5L256.0cm²48.0%4300ml800ml
Style eco Cool 2.4L251.0cm²58.3%5100ml600ml

The rectangle is the published overall width multiplied by depth. It is a comparison of the dimensions a storage space must accommodate, not the jug’s contact area or an allowance for movement. For example, Style eco gives 23.9 × 10.5 = 250.95cm² before rounding; Marella Cool gives 25.8 × 10.5 = 270.9cm². The 7.4% reduction in that rectangle comes with the extra height already shown in the specification table.

Liscia has the largest advertised total volume here, but its 1.2-litre filtered reservoir gives four full 250ml servings; the two 1.4-litre BRITA reservoirs give five. This assumes a nominally full filtered reservoir at the start and leaves any remainder in the jug. For a 1.5-litre bottle-filling task, the additional amount to filter is 300ml for Liscia or 100ml for either BRITA. These figures describe serving capacity; they do not estimate how long the next water will take to filter.

Apply the dimensions to three example spaces

The openings below are deliberately invented examples, stated as width × height × depth in millimetres. Each spare dimension is the opening minus the jug’s published size. A negative number rules out that orientation on the supplied figures. A zero or positive spare dimension only means that no stated dimension exceeds the opening; it does not allow for a retaining rail, hand access, curved liners, tolerances or the movement needed to remove the jug.

The shallow example leaves Liscia just 3mm in depth, so it is a prompt to check the real shelf rather than a comfortable clearance recommendation. The narrow example leaves Style eco 6mm in width. In the lower example, Style eco exceeds the available height by 3mm while the other two do not exceed the stated dimensions. No single model is therefore the smallest in every dimension, and passing this arithmetic screen still leaves the practical removal and door-closure checks.

Method, sources and downloadable calculations

Inputs are the exact model dimensions in the first table, expressed as whole millimetres, and the stated filtered/total capacities expressed in millilitres. For the rectangle, multiply width by depth and divide mm² by 100 for cm². Divide filtered capacity by total capacity for its percentage share. Count full servings by rounding filtered millilitres ÷ 250 down to a whole number; extra water to filter is the task volume minus the initial filtered reservoir, with a minimum of zero. Subtract each jug dimension from its corresponding example-space dimension for the spare figures.

Keep full precision until the final display. Areas and percentages are shown to one decimal place; the source dimensions do not establish millimetre-perfect manufacturing tolerances. The models remain upright in the same orientation throughout. This analysis does not model tilting, rotation, fridge shelf loads, water above the filter, the time required to refill or how the jug feels to lift.

Sources: BRITA’s Marella Cool figures, Aqua Optima’s Liscia specification and BRITA’s Style eco 2.4L specification. The Style eco dimensions refer to that named model; do not substitute Style Essential, an XL or another retail variant. Regional pack contents can differ from the UK Amazon pack.

How to measure your fridge door before ordering

  1. Empty the intended section. Measure the shelf you will actually use, rather than a neighbouring compartment. Check whether a movable divider can be repositioned without losing the space needed for other food.
  2. Measure clear width at its narrowest point. Include moulded ribs, bottle retainers and the door liner. A long handle can occupy space above a base that appears to fit.
  3. Measure usable front-to-back depth. Take the distance between the door liner and retaining rail, allowing for any curved or tapered part. Compare with the manufacturer’s depth figure, not a shipping-box measurement.
  4. Check height and removal. Measure to the underside of the shelf above. Leave room for your hand and the movement needed to lift over the retaining rail. A jug that fits only when tilted may spill when full.
  5. Close the door slowly with a suitable empty stand-in. A cardboard outline can reveal a collision with an internal shelf or drawer. Do not force the door, and remember that a flat outline cannot reproduce a handle or curved body exactly.

A few millimetres of apparent clearance is not a comfortable margin. Door liners curve, shelf rails taper and people do not lift a jug along a perfectly straight line. We do not prescribe one universal extra gap because the opening and removal path vary. Measure all three dimensions and make a judgement about usable access.

If the door is too tight, consider a main shelf. That changes the checks: shelf depth, shelf height and items behind the jug become more relevant. Follow the fridge maker’s shelf-load guidance and avoid placing a container where it prevents the door from closing properly.

Filtered litres tell you how many bottles you can fill

Total capacity includes space above the cartridge where water waits to filter. It is not a promise that the full total is ready to pour. Liscia’s 2.5-litre total therefore does not beat Marella’s 2.4-litre total for ready-to-pour water: the corresponding filtered figures are 1.2 and 1.4 litres.

For a simple demand check, two 500ml bottles need one litre, which is within the stated filtered capacity of all three. Two 750ml bottles need 1.5 litres, which exceeds all three stated reservoirs. Allow for another filtering cycle rather than expecting the larger number on the box to cover the morning rush. These examples use the published nominal filtered capacities; leave practical room for your filling routine.

A larger jug can reduce refilling, but it needs more room and becomes heavier with water. See Marella vs Marella XL if the compact models are too small. A stationary dispenser is a different storage decision altogether.

Choose a refill routine you will keep up

The smallest footprint is useful only if the jug is easy to fill, pour and clean. Check whether the kitchen tap leaves enough room for the lid, and whether you can hold the handle comfortably when the jug is full. Reaching into a low door shelf may be more awkward than pouring at worktop height.

Marella and Style eco use MAXTRA PRO; Liscia uses Evolve+. A smaller container does not extend the cartridge’s service life. Read BRITA vs Aqua Optima for replacement limits and use the cost calculator for your current pack price. Record the cartridge change separately from routine washing.

Keep the jug clean and follow its model’s care instructions. Refrigerator storage does not remove the need for regular washing or timely filter replacement. Before ordering, save the exact model size, compare the pack contents and check the seller’s current returns terms in case the physical fit proves unsuitable.

Questions before you buy

What is the narrowest jug in this shortlist?

By published depth, Liscia is 10cm and Marella Cool and Style eco Cool are 10.5cm. Width and height differ too, so the shallowest model is not automatically the best fit.

Does fridge-door friendly mean it will fit my fridge?

No. Door liners, rails, dividers and shelf positions vary. Measure the clear opening, resting space and removal path for your own fridge.

Is a 2.5-litre jug always bigger than a 2.4-litre jug?

Only by the stated total volume. Liscia’s 2.5-litre total contains a 1.2-litre filtered reservoir; the compact BRITA models here state 1.4 litres filtered within 2.4 litres total.

Can I use the Marella XL measurements for Marella Cool?

No. Their published depths differ: 14.8cm for XL and 10.5cm for Cool. Match the exact selected size before ordering.

Should I fill the jug while it is in the fridge door?

Follow the model’s filling instructions. Plan for easy removal and stable filling at the sink; do not assume a tightly fitted jug can be filled or handled safely in place.
