BRITA P 1000 vs P 3000: compatibility, capacity and replacement clearance
Compare BRITA P-series head compatibility, A/B/C hardness capacities, cartridge and installed heights, replacement access and cost per usable litre.

Check the supported head before choosing either cartridge
P 1000 and P 3000 are BRITA installed-system cartridges used with a supported filter head and tap arrangement. They are unrelated to MAXTRA PRO jug fit, and their names do not establish compatibility with every BRITA professional head. Record the current head, system and cartridge code before ordering a replacement.
The cited three-way tap manual supports both P-series sizes and provides separate indicator programming for them. That makes a larger cartridge an option within that documented arrangement, provided there is sufficient service space. It does not turn P 3000 into a universal upgrade for any installation whose old cartridge says P 1000.
BRITA P 1000 replacement · 1 cartridge
The compact P-series replacement used by the named BRITA installed-tap systems and compatible head arrangements.
- Capacity / format
- 400–1200L by hardness setting; up to 12 months
- Cartridge / pack
- P 1000
Good forA shorter cartridge and lower-demand supported installation.
Watch forP 1000 is unrelated to MAXTRA PRO jug-cartridge fit.
Select the correct head and hardness settings. Calendar and volume limits apply; the largest capacity figure is not a guarantee in very hard water.
BRITA P 3000 replacement · 1 cartridge
The taller P-series cartridge offers more nominal treatment capacity at each corresponding hardness setting.
- Capacity / format
- 1100–3400L by hardness setting; up to 12 months
- Cartridge / pack
- P 3000
Good forHigher use where the taller cartridge remains accessible.
Watch forThe cited three-way manual gives 419mm height including the head, before removal access.
Choose only when the supported head, indicator programming and service clearance suit the larger cartridge. It is not a remedy for low inlet pressure.
P 3000’s principal advantage is greater nominal treatment capacity at the corresponding hardness setting. It is not a pump and does not establish a higher tap flow. If the existing complaint is weak delivery, use the low-flow guide before buying a larger cartridge for the wrong reason.
Keep the hardness conditions attached to the capacity
The manual’s A, B and C settings have different capacity allowances. Compare both cartridges within the same row, using the assessment and setup required for the actual head. Do not select A merely because its litre allowance looks cheaper or assume a total-hardness number is interchangeable with the manual’s carbonate-hardness assessment.
| Setting and stated hardness | P 1000 | P 3000 |
|---|---|---|
| A: up to 10°dH | Up to 1200L | Up to 3400L |
| B: 10–17°dH | Up to 600L | Up to 1700L |
| C: 17–24°dH | Up to 400L | Up to 1100L |
Follow the applicable calendar limit as well as volume; a large remaining capacity does not make a wet cartridge indefinite. The cited P-series guidance uses up to twelve months. For water outside the published table or a different head revision, obtain the correct setting and capacity from BRITA rather than extrapolating another row.
At four litres per day, 400 litres corresponds to 100 days and 1100 litres to 275 days. Those arithmetic examples show why P 3000 may reduce capacity-limited changes in a supported hard-water installation. They are not measured service lives, and they do not remove the need for the correct head setting.
Compare cartridge height with the complete installed envelope
Use the under-sink measuring guide to record the space around the fitted head and the removal path, as well as cartridge height. A nominally suitable refill is inconvenient if it cannot be changed in place.
The cartridge body alone is 259mm high for P 1000 and 410mm for P 3000 in the cited three-way manual. Including the filter head, the heights become 268mm and 419mm. P 3000 therefore adds 151mm in that documented arrangement before allowing extra room to release and remove it.
| Measurement | P 1000 | P 3000 |
|---|---|---|
| Cartridge body height | 259mm | 410mm |
| Head plus cartridge height | 268mm | 419mm |
| Wall-mounted W × D × H | 137 × 130 × 268mm | 137 × 128 × 419mm |
An older mypure P1 manual gives 265mm and 417mm for the head-and-cartridge heights. Use that difference as a reminder to check the actual installation drawing. Do not combine dimensions from different head generations, and do not treat either published height as including all working clearance.
Allow for hose bends, lock movement and a clear withdrawal route. Check whether a bin, shelf or waste trap blocks removal after the head is mounted. The manuals allow supported horizontal or vertical operation, but that does not authorise any orientation for every accessory or an installation with strained connections.
Change the cartridge and programme the correct type
Follow the exact manual’s isolation and pressure-release sequence before opening the locking handle. The cited instructions use a flush valve and receiving container to release pressure. Insert the matched cartridge with the seals correctly positioned, close the locking handle and complete the prescribed flush and leak checks before drinking.
The three-way manual describes running filtered water until clear and free of bubbles, with at least one litre after replacement. This is a minimum in that procedure, not a universal flush amount for unrelated installed filters. Keep the receiving vessel and any flush hose clean, and avoid spilling water into nearby electrical equipment.

- Capacity / format
- 26.1cm length · 29cm height
- Cartridge / pack
- P 1000 supplied
Good forA lower angular tap shape with an installed cartridge.
Watch forNot a boiling or chilled-water system; the manual excludes low-pressure boilers.
Consider it with suitable pressure, compatible supplies and room for the P-series cartridge. Confirm the supplied head and UK fittings before arranging installation.
The indicator must know which cartridge is installed and which hardness setting applies. In the cited system, P 1000 and P 3000 have different cartridge selections; resetting an old P 1000 setup does not automatically programme P 3000. Keep the head’s treatment setting and the reminder’s calculation aligned with the manufacturer instructions.
If a cartridge resists removal, a seal is damaged or water escapes after refitting, stop rather than forcing the lock or loosening pressurised fittings. Contact BRITA or an appropriate installer with the head and cartridge identities. A successful fit is more than the ability to push the cylinder into place.
Calculate value from usable capacity and the time limit
Within the published capacity rows, P 3000 offers roughly 2.75 to 2.83 times the P 1000 allowance. That ratio can help compare current prices when volume genuinely limits replacement. It does not automatically justify paying the same multiple if low consumption means both cartridges reach the calendar limit with much of their capacity unused.
For example, at one litre per day, annual demand is about 365 litres. That is below even the stated P 1000 C-row allowance of 400 litres, before considering actual water conditions. A larger cartridge may offer little replacement-frequency advantage in that particular plan. At higher demand, the calculation changes.
Use the running-cost calculator with current pack prices, household litres and the limits appropriate to the system. Include delivery and any installation change needed for the taller cartridge. Choose P 3000 where supported capacity solves a real replacement problem, while P 1000 remains practical where space or modest use makes the smaller cartridge sufficient.
Common questions
Is P 3000 a direct replacement for every P 1000 installation?
Only where the exact BRITA head and system instructions support it, sufficient service space exists and the indicator can be set correctly. A shared brand name is not a universal fit guarantee.
Does P 3000 filter faster?
Its larger capacity does not establish faster delivery. Supply pressure, tap, head, flow regulation and plumbing all affect outlet flow.
Why do some manuals give different installed heights?
The cited three-way manual gives 268/419mm with the head, while an older mypure P1 manual gives 265/417mm. Use the drawing for the actual head and installation, not a mixed set of dimensions.
Can I use the 3400-litre figure in very hard water?
No. In the cited table, 3400 litres belongs to setting A up to 10°dH. Setting C at 17–24°dH gives up to 1100 litres for P 3000.
Should I change the hardness setting to make it last longer?
No. Set the head according to the matching instructions and water assessment. Selecting a more favourable capacity row does not make that treatment setting appropriate for your water.
