Best tap-mounted water filters for UK kitchens

Compare BRITA ON TAP V, Pro V-MF and Philips AWP3703/10, including tap exclusions, replacement families, reminders and ongoing ownership checks.

Three tap-mounted options for different priorities

A useful tap-filter shortlist begins with the tap you already own. A well-specified attachment is poor value if its adapter does not fit, it obstructs the sink or its refill does not address your aim. The models below are compared using manufacturer documentation and the selected Amazon UK listings.

We prioritise identifiable replacement families, documented outlet restrictions and an understandable everyday routine. There is no single performance score because a digital reminder, a membrane and a manual timer solve different problems. Compare the supplied cartridge as carefully as the system name.

If kettle scale is your main purchase reason, start with the hard-water guide instead of assuming any carbon tap filter will soften water. For a pull-out or spray tap, explore an appropriate under-sink water path or jug.

BRITA ON TAP Pro V-MF: for a capacity display

The Pro V-MF listing combines the Pro housing’s LCD with one V-MF cartridge. The display makes remaining volume easier to follow than a manual month reminder, particularly when several people fill bottles. You still need a fitting record because calendar replacement limits remain relevant.

The V-MF cartridge adds a microfiltration membrane to BRITA’s treatment approach. That is a media distinction, not evidence that the display measures water quality or that the system can make an unsafe supply suitable. Follow water-supplier notices independently of the device’s status.

For an eligible round tap outlet. Its membrane differs from the standard V refill; neither cartridge reduces hardness.

Choose it if the supported tap fit works and the membrane specification plus digital reminder justify the whole purchase. Do not pay for it to solve limescale: BRITA explicitly retains calcium and magnesium. Compare the V and Pro V-MF details for cartridge interchangeability and reminder differences.

BRITA ON TAP V: for a simpler reminder routine

The ON TAP V uses a manual filter-change reminder rather than a digital litre countdown. That can be adequate when the household will reliably record the fitting month and estimated usage. It is less helpful if nobody tracks water drawn through the filtered outlet.

Its supplied V cartridge differs from V-MF: the standard version does not have the V-MF membrane. Both systems offer filtered water and unfiltered modes, allowing ordinary washing water to bypass the cartridge. The unfiltered spray setting is not filtered water simply because it exits the same attachment.

Choose it only after checking the outlet and supplied adapters. Pull-out or spray taps need particular attention to the fit chart; the filter is not a limescale solution.

Compare the system’s current price with the Pro pack and count included refills before deciding which is cheaper to own. Choosing a different supported cartridge later does not add an LCD to the V housing. Both fittings and filter-generation compatibility need checking before a replacement order.

Philips AWP3703/10: for a two-mode X-Guard system

The AWP3703/10 offers a filtered stream and an unfiltered shower mode selected with its push button. Philips identifies AWP305 X-Guard as the supplied treatment family. Its carbon-based filtering is aimed at chlorine and taste-related substances; do not import claims from the differently specified AWP315 X-Guard Ultra cartridge.

The UK specification lists a maximum 1000-litre filtration capacity. The manual also gives usage-based time guidance, with shorter intervals as household use rises. A headline litre figure should therefore not be divided by a small daily demand to justify keeping a refill indefinitely.

Philips lists eligible round outlets within its stated size range and excludes shower heads, rectangular or oval outlets and sensor heads. Its manual’s adapter limits differ from BRITA’s. Use the tap-fit checklist with the chosen manufacturer’s diagram rather than sharing an adapter assumption across brands.

Check the refill purchase before the system purchase

For a supported modern BRITA ON TAP housing, the V-MF twin pack provides two complete cartridges. Each has its own maximum 600-litre or four-month interval, whichever arrives first. Two cartridges do not make one uninterrupted eight-month installation; the first must be removed and replaced on schedule.

For the Philips X-Guard option, the AWP305P2/10 listing is a two-cartridge pack. Keep the AWP305 name in your shopping record so a similar-looking Ultra refill is a deliberate specification change rather than an accidental substitution.

Use the current selected pack price, divide by the number of usable cartridges and calculate against the actual usage and time limit. Add delivery where relevant. For BRITA, our replacement instructions explain the cap, reset and new-filter flush. Follow Philips’ own instructions for its system; preparation timings are not shared between brands.

Make the kitchen-fit check decisive

Photograph the tap outlet from below, identify the tap model if possible and check whether its aerator can be removed without damage. A hidden or recessed aerator can need its own key and may not expose the fitting a particular filter requires. Do not force an attachment onto an unidentified or damaged thread.

Measure the usable space beneath and beside the outlet with a tall bottle and your normal kettle in place. Include the attachment’s width, selector movement and the tap’s full swivel. Check that other household members can select cold filtered mode and return to the appropriate unfiltered setting without confusing the two.

Finally, compare the manufacturer’s pressure and filtered-water temperature requirements with the supply. A mixer can deliver hot water even when the filter is intended for cold filtered use; the presence of a hot tap handle is not permission to run hot water through the cartridge. If fit or the plumbing remains uncertain, a supported jug is a practical alternative while those details are resolved.

Common questions

Which tap-mounted filter removes limescale?

Do not infer scale reduction from this shortlist. BRITA explicitly says ON TAP retains hardness minerals; Philips X-Guard is a chlorine and taste-focused option, not a whole-house softener.

Can these fit a pull-out kitchen spray tap?

Treat pull-out and spray heads as excluded unless the exact manufacturer explicitly approves the tap and fitting. BRITA’s current manual excludes these outlet types.

Is a digital reminder a water-quality sensor?

No. It helps track cartridge service. It does not analyse the water or override the time limit, supplier notices or a known product fault.

Is Philips AWP305 the same as AWP315?

No. AWP305 is X-Guard; AWP315 is the differently specified X-Guard Ultra. Physical compatibility does not make their treatment claims identical.

Why are no fixed Amazon prices shown?

Pack variants, sellers and prices can change. Use the current selected pack price and included cartridge count to compare costs, then confirm the exact contents before checkout.
